Incoming: Tyranids | Games Workshop. New Nid book in January!!
Plus a new miniature for White Dwarf Subscribers:
GW has also released a new Plastic WH40k Ork Battlewagon. This completed one was sighted at the LA Battlebunker display case:

Ork BattlewagonThis Plastic kit can be built into multiple configurations and GW has already announced that upgrade kits to add a front roller will be available this summer from their Direct Order Department to further enhance or modify the Battlewagon
The Land Raider Crusador requires an Assault Cannon rather than twin linked Heavy Bolters.
I picked up a Crusador box and combining this with a previous Chaos Land Raider I am building two LR Crusadors: One with Heavy Flamers and one with the Heavy Bolters. Both need the top mounted Assault Cannons rather than the Heavy Bolters.
So I converted the assault cannons I had left over from my Dark Angels Sprue and converted my Chaos LR top mounted HB to a new twin linked Assault cannon.
Here are photos of an orginial along with my conversion:

I’ve begun redoing a Space Marine Terminator Captain that I had previously painted Ultramarine Blue.
After stripping the model, I also realized that this captain was based wrong (it was on a 25mm base) and armed wrong with a single lighting claw and a storm bolter.
So two things were done.
One get a plastic lighting claw from the new terminator set and two re-base the captain onto a 40mm base.

Have you ever just wanted to see all those wonderful winners of past years golden daemon from past Games Workshop Grand Tournaments? Well know you can. I recently was directed to this french site http://demonwinner.free.fr/ and have been completely blown away:
The Golden Demon is a 28mm models painting contest, organized by Games Workshop company all around the world in addition of their annual big show : the Games Day. After more than 18 years, this rendez vous has become the reference on this particular scale and attracts more and more international painters.
This website’s objective is to gather a maximum of winner pictures, by year and location. You will also find additional galleries with misc pictures of former winners, like Jeremie Bonamant, who won 22 awards and initiated this site’s idea.I hope that the site stays active and ongoing as it is a teasure that all miniature enthusiasts can enjoy!
My only wish (complaint) is that I truly wish that they were able to bind and publish this as a tabletop book that I could place on my shelf.
There is an ongoing argument/discussion in the Warhammer 40k community regarding the basing of Space Marine Terminators.
It seems that at the introduction of terminators in early editions, through the version 3.5 edition, that terminators were based on the standard human size base (20mm- round). As the game as progressed, and the introduction of the 4th edition, Terminators were re-released in an sprue format, based on 40mm round bases.
GW in an inspirational and totally common sense approach told the gamers, that those who already owned terminators did not have to rebase their old terminators, but that players could continue to play with models based on whatever base they were pakaged with or originally sold with.
Due to this, many players as they have updated armies have begun to have mixed units of terminators with both 40mm and 20 mm based models, depending on the age of the model.
Now many people are squarely and continue to argue about if the different basing modes (20mm vs 40mm) give a gaming or tactical advantage to the terminators. From the various studies via mathhammer (a deep and esoteric math practice of generating deep statistical analysis of wounds/hits and survivorability of 40k armies) the general consensus is that gamewize is generally a wash whether the terminator is on a 20mm or a 40mm bases.
Now another ruling from GW corporate is that while you may base models on the bases originally supplied with the model, you may also base a model on a larger base as long as it does not provide you with any tactical or game advantage over the original basing.
I happen to dislike the idea of having mixed based units in the same unit, when they are serving the same purpose, so I have been basing all my older terminator models onto new 40mm bases. Depending of the model, I use different techniques to do this. In general I like a number of resin/dental plaster molded bases that I have bought and developed over the past 2 years. But occasionaly if will use another technique with some of my old metal models, since they have a harder time binding to the resin/plaster bases).
This technique is to simply leave the model with its slot A, based on its original 20mm plastic base. Glue this to the top of a standard 40mm plastic base.
I leveled out the base with terrain bricks to bring the entire base up to the level of the 20mm. I filled in the entire stand with standard GW sand/ballast flocking.

Here is a closer look at the middle three:

I’ve been working on several Space Marine Projects the last few days, so wanted to share the progress of several of these works in progress.
First Up my Space Marine Scouts, based and ready for priming:

Next up are several older terminators that I stripped out and have begun remounting onto new bases. They are a mixture of plastic and metal terminators.

One of the Terminators is from the commander from Assault on Black Reach. I’ve converted him to be my Apothecary model for my Deathwing Squad.

I also began work (or continued work) on two Deathwing Dreadnaughts The Multimelta arms are removable, but I did add additional iconography and a Venerable dreadnaught close combat arm to one.

I also worked on a small unit of Dark Angel Veterans:

More photos of the DA Terminator Apothecary, because I hadn’t taken photos from all angles of the model for you to see.

I’m hoping that it stops raining around here soon so that I can prime a few of these and get them ready for the next steps.
Hey guys, with the release of the new Codex: Space Marines, I’ve been working on my 10th company again.
I’ve run into a situation regarding my Space Marine Scout models.
I was wondering how everyone was modeling or getting models for the two heavy options available for the scout squads: Heavy Bolter and Missile Launcher. The new plastic box set provides for a single heavy bolter, I’m not sure about the Missile launcher.
The HB is good for reaching out and touching troops, while the missile launcher allows for some anti vehicle along with a small template that can hit groups, but enemy tend to spread out more when they realize that you have that weapon (and it is pretty obvious: “Hey george, look at the tube point at us, what do you think that is?”)
How about a lot of us who have the old metal Scout boxes (I have 52 scouts already) it seems rather silly to purchase another 4 boxes just to get 4 more heavy bolter scouts and 4 more missile launchers. There is NO way to field a legal 72 scout army. (max of 6 troops x 10 scouts = 60 models).
Its not like I’m going to necessarily going to field all of these, (though I have already made a 1500 point list that includes them all along with my scout bikes) for my fun 10th company army.
These are the models I have painted already with the schema that I like:
![]()
Its a snow schemo, based on my Blue Angels chapter varient.
My scout bikers will be joining the 10th company to form the fast attack support and probably one or two dreadnaughts, a standard Space Marine Command Squad and one of those new all terrain Techmarine thunderfire cannon. The techmarine will assist the scout sniper squad to dig in a fortified position to control the mid field or a flank.
